Updated Wyoming Secretary of State Website

A new Wyoming Secretary of State website was unveiled in late June. According to their website blurb, "the public will find this site to be well-organized and easy to navigate with a focus on public need and use."

Check out the many new features including the Polling Place Locator, the Forms & Filings Tool, and the Free Certificate of Good Standings.

Note: While the home URL (http://soswy.state.wy.us/) has not changed, URLs within the website are often different. Here is the new URL for the Rules and Regulations: http://soswy.state.wy.us/AdminServices/RulesOverview.aspx.

How to: What Not To Put On Your Firm Homepage

Have you taken that leap into the 21st century and created a web site for your practice? How long has it been since it was updated? What kinds of questions did you ask yourself during planning and design? What was your goal for the web site presence? How do you know if it's effective?

Making a web site takes more than just code. You need to consider it as one more method for advertising your serves to prospective clients; and this takes some careful consideration.

Margot Teleki wrote an article for Law.com's Legal Technology that can help guide you through some dos and don'ts as far as home page content and design. Use Your Home Page as a Marketing Tool covers some of the issues you need to consider for drawing a prospective client from a search engine to your site, as well as what kinds of information to provide for them once they reach your home page. It's a fairly short article that can get you started on the right track.

Oh, and while I'm at it--here's another article by Teleki. It pretty much covers the same topic, but details more specifically the dos rather than the don'ts.

Updated WSLL web site

There is new look to the WSLL web site. I have recently completed a bit of research into the makings of a good web site and the updated look is the result of what I've learned. I changed very few of the file names to minimize issues with any of you who may have created bookmarks, shortcuts, or favorites. However, I have added many more files to make the information on each page easier to locate.

For those of you who have a web site and would like to know more about how to create a good web site design, I have written up some tips for the State Court and County Law Libraries Special Interest Section of the American Association of Law Libraries. You can access it here: http://www.aallnet.org/sis/sccll/toolbox/website_resources.pdf.

If you have any questions, cannot find something, or have any suggestions at all, please do not hesitate to contact me. I would love to have any and all feedback.
